New UC Medical School in the Heart of California’s Central Valley?
Assemblywoman Dr. Jasmeet Bains made a big announcement at the State of the County address [on Jan. 26]: I am excited to announce some breaking news. Next month I will introduce legislation to bring a University of California Medical School to Kern County.
“This is a long time coming for Kern County,” Bains said. “This is not just going to flourish our physicians — this is going to flourish our nurse practitioners, PAs, RNs and so much more that’s going to help strengthen the work force right here in the valley.”
Citing a severe lack of access to health care in Kern, Bains wants to ensure locals interested in a career in the medical field, don’t have to travel too far away to receive the education they need.
